Wow! watching 'Yeh Sali Zindagi' and 'Udaan' on same day is quite something. Where "Yeh Sali Zindagi" is a ride that you enjoy on the foot-board of immensely fast moving train, 'Udaan' is nothing but a soothing journey taken on slow paced train sitting in window seat. Both are awesome and unique in their own sense.
It was started as usual lazy Sunday, we were still getting over a hefty dinner that we had on Saturday Night and decided to skip our Breakfast. Suddenly Ankit's buzz flashed as YSZ is must watch, I hold very little respect for director Sudhir Mishra but still wanted to give a try [to be honest they promoted 22 smooches in the movie way too much] so what the hell!!! even after dismal Friday night show of Sanctum we booked 11:30 AM show tickets [yeah we are that hopeless people] and went for YSZ.
And boy!! what an experience...there is one thing you should not miss out at home and that's your brain. YSZ is totally brainy affair, what a treat when new character poped in every 5 minutes and spot of action changes now and then. I do not want to tell the story [because I can not] its so twisted and just hard to explain [the last time I felt like this while watching MANORAMA 6 Feet under] So lets get back to YSZ.
This is the romantic thriller to the core, packed with crazy henchmen, corrupt politicians, bankrupt businessmen and fashion freaks. Mishra has ensemble cast to hold this otherwise complexly written story, you got to be in it to get it. Fans of simplistic story telling should strictly stay away from this one.
There are more than one reasons to catch YSZ - go for it's acting, Irrfan Khan [finally back in form] and entire cast, catchy camera work and locations, music and the direction. As initially said, its a crazy ride where you are standing on foot-board, train is moving fast, wind is gushing under your hair. You are bit of scared but still enjoying the rush. in 3 words GO FOR IT!
After a tiring YSZ I could not have asked for more than a Udaan, in spite of frequent reminders I just could not catch up Udaan earlier...Thanks to Colors TV they showed it at 5 PM on Sunday. Udaan takes it times to get into it and delves for long time. I neither have such a monster dad nor been through troubled childhood still I could connect with both the kids so easily. Udaan is just like the very first poem in the movie...
Chhoti-chhoti chhitrayi yaadein
Bichhi hui hain lamhon ki lawn par
Nange pair unpar chalte-chalte
Itni door chale aaye
Ki ab bhool gaye hain ki

It's world of Rohan and Arjun, thrashed regularly by their father. Udaan tells story of Rohan snatching his life back from his father and making a whole new life for him and his brother. It might not have definite heroic climax like Lakshya or romantic ending like Wake Up Sid! but perhaps that's why Udaan is more enduring. Life is not so easy, and the real struggle might have just started for Rohan and Arjun. However but they have life of their own. Supported excellently by entire cast and Amit Trivedi's music does the magic again.
