2010- Wrap up

Eehhho!! 2010 is almost over, and I am about to finish one of the lamest year I had. India however has grrreat run in almost every department [sarcastic]. Time to wrap up year in my style...co-relating with 2010 Bollywood releases though many of them I am yet to watch.

WE ARE FAMILY - It's all about loving your family, 2010 is a year of scams, starting with IPL and ending note by 2G Raja, This movie however star all the families involved in Adarsh Society Scam and ofcorse Yeduruppa and Sons.

KNOCK-OUT - Can't think of anyone else than Ashok Chavan, Chavan finally have to give away the MAHA CM Lottery that he got twice.

STRIKER - This is solely starred by Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, unexpectedly 2010 turned out amazingest year for Sachin, he scored 200 in ODIs and completed 50 test centuries and continued proving his GOD status in modern day Cricket.

NA GHAR KE GHAT KE - Not sure how many of you heard about this movie, that was based on Bihari couple in Mumbai. However it perfectly suits to Laloo Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, they are neither of Central nor of their own Bihar. Many might not agree but Bihar Election 2010 results is very definitive event of this decade.

BADMAASH COMPANY - Pakistan Cricket Board and Pakistani Cricketers...could not think anyone else apt for this title.
LOVE, SEX and DHOKA - My most favorite movie of the year, but here it stars none other than Baba Nithyanand, As per what I saw on youtube, there was NO LOVE but Sex and Dhoka for sure. Still I feel pity about the baba. They are allowed to have sex but surely not the way he did :P

BAND BAJA BARAAT - Shoeb Malik is married, NO he is single, NO he is divorced, Who is Ayesha, did he actually sold video rights to news channel for their wedding ceremony? Sania - Shoeb's wedding was all about band baja and really low on baraat. Finally they are married and we just dont care.

ATHITI TUM KAB JAYOGE - Much against Indian saying of 'Athithi Devo Bhav', Obama's Indian visit turned out to be pain in an ass. 'US president coming to India to explore more job opportunities for Americans' isn't quite rosy picture for Indians. He came, She Danced and they went back. Screwing perfect festive season for Mumbai and promising absolutely nothing for India.

JHOOTA HI SAHI - Lalit Modi is down but certainly not out. IPL scam took India with storm, thanks to more scams to follow Modi is keeping low pro on this list. Jhoota hi Sahi but Modi is kicking some serious ass in legal battle with BCCI.

KHELEN HUM JEE JAN SE - This goes to all the players of Commonwealth Games, yeah at least they put on a great show without any deadline slips. A must mention are Gagan Narang, Somdev and Saina Nehwal.

WELL DONE ABBA - Believe it, this goes to Dhoni, we stayed as number 1 test team in the world and we played like one. Much credit should goes to Dhoni, but WELL DONE is for overtaking Sachin and everyone else in showbiz in endorsement contracts.

GOLMAL - And all the reality show aired this year continued to fake it. Big Boss became more obscene than ever and Rakhi Ka Insaaf broke all the records of how-low-you-can-get-on-TV

PRINCE - As Wikileaks started leaking the great Indian secrets, our Prince of Congress came up with really revolutionary observations, not only that prince charming could not charm bihari elections but also risking  majority of votes now.

ISHQUIYA- Ohh there are many luv storys around but I HATE LUV STORYS, however I can not miss out Shashi Tharoor and Sunanda Pushkar love story. He gave up his ministry, she gave up her share from Cochi franchisee wah! aisa pyar kaha

CLICK - Heard about the movie?? But this year really belongs to Twitter, to bring down Shashi Tharoor and Lalit Modi. That proves that screwing up someone's career is single click away - POST it.

RIGHT YA WRONG - We waited for the verdict for 18 long years, when it came, the entire nation was stand still. Ayodha Verdict came and made me to realize that nothing has changed, still we get equally panic with just a sight of what could possibly happen again. 1/3rd share to each is possibly the smartest decision but alas we are not matured enough to accept it. I am still confused as rest of the nation.

RED ALERT - Naxalism was at it's pick this year, what was more bewildering was the support it has received from scholars such as Arundhati Roy. By the way those who have missed, Red Alert is good movie, in spite Sunil Shetty and Sameera Reddy being in lead roles.

that bring's to the last release of the year. And the TEES MAAR KHAN goes to nothing but Suresh Kalmadi. Now there is enough has been said about him here and everywhere. So my Indian of the year is Suresh Kalmadi.

And there are some striking images of 2010
What a picture!!! Thankfully we got to see many such pics last year. Sachin completing his double ton and keeping his GODhood kicking.

Michelle Obama Doing Koli Dance - Quite enduring
This shocked the nation, BBC released pics of Commonwealth Games Village, something that brought a national shame. One of the lowpoint of CWG 2010

Pathetic publicity gimmick, I still can not bear a site, Akshay Kumar an apologetically shameless with R K Laxman

This is my personal favorite!! look how happy they are
Mumbai Indians had a great run in IPL 3 and specially Bhajji.

Wish to see many more happy pictures in 2011

Happy New Year

TMK WTF

NOTICE: The sole motive of this post is to keep you as away from thing called TEES MAAR KHAN, not that I did not see this coming but now that I have been through this, it is my utmost responsibility to warn those who can still manage to survive. Please do not watch TEES MAAR KHAN and save the humanity

Remember while you are driving on road and a garbage truck overtakes your vehicle and you have to live with that stuff for a while, till either truck goes away or you hold back. TMK has the same amazing characteristic to stick on with you, even you are very well away from the site of disaster. This is Shirish Kunder's revenge on the world for marrying Farah Khan and Farah Khan's revenge on Shirish Kunder for giving 3 babies at a time. [Those who do not know, Shirish Kunder has written, screenplayed, dialogued, lyriced, background scored, edited, musiced TMK and married to Farah Khan] This is undoubtedly worst Akshaye Kumar movie and that says a lot.

Watching TMK is same as passing from Sion to Matunga in Mumbai local train and watching hundreds of people shitting on railway tracks and that too for 2 long hours. And mind you, there is not a pinch of exaggeration and you will actually see one guy taking crap in paddy field.TMK is mind numbingly dumb movie that makes Welcome and Singh is Kingg masterpieces.

Now enough of metaphors and get back to ripping of movie.
Tabrez Mirza Khan [AKSHAY KUMAR] who learned robbery even before he was born. He can open any lock and ofcorse he is KHANO mein KHAN, supported by lame sidekicks named burger, soda etc [laugh! this is supposed to be funny]
Johri Brothers [MTv twins Raghu and Raghav] appoint TMK for a great robbery where he has to loot thousands of kilos of antics from a running train. BTW these are Siamese twins who talks in unison and this supposed  to be funny.
Anya [Katrina] is struggling actress who does item numbers in movies like SHEELA KI JAWANI,
there are some passing references as well to make you laugh that Chunky Panday acting in movie named CHOLI MEIN HOLI, Akshay Kumar holding a book called MUNNI KI AAG KAB BUJHEGI, a dark colored thief named KOYLA who disguises himself in dark, Hollywood directors named DANNY DOYLE and Manoj Day Ramlan. Are you laughing at these things? NO na? Because this is not funny.
Akshay Khanna plays Oscar crazy bollywood actor, a character is clearly rip off of Anil Kapoor and waiting for his DAY-HO! is only manages to tickle some funny bones.
There is huge supporting cast thats just not support the movie, because the movie has no base. TMK's con acts are not smart enough and the great robbery isn't impactful either.

SHEELA KI JAWANI is ONLY highpoint that gets over in first 15 minutes of the movie. Rest we are left with insufferable trauma. Is movie that bad, YES.
In spite of this you are still booking tickets, make sure you take back up of your brain and soul. Because TMK just might steal it.

Australia- Down & Under

You wont believe but there is a smile on my face while I am writing this post. I always hated Australian cricket team, more after 2003 world cup finale. They were insanely talented and brutally arrogant about it, something that goes hand in hand.
I still remember, 23 March 2003, a day that was earlier remembered as Shaheed din for Bhagatsingh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, but later in 2003 we have seen massacre of Indian Cricket Team in Johannesburg right in front of our eyes.
We all gathered at Sumit's place so we can enjoy the match together, the first ball by Zaheer went for NO BALL, and things just never came back on track. Its more than a decade that we have seen dominance of Australian Cricket Team in all forms of cricket. We all hate to admit but they were simply great, but the greater part is that...they WERE.
I know there are still 2 matches left in Ashes, and I MIGHT need to eat my own words, but somehow I think that is not going to happen. Australians ruled cricket for a long time [just the way West Indies did ] but now it's beginning of an end. They have been down to 5th rank in test cricket and ODI isn't going perfect as well, but Ashes is something that hurts them most [it has got history] just the way Javed Miandad's last ball six does to us.
I wish Australian Cricket team, more humiliating loses and many such embarrassing moments...Amen!!!!

Khelen Hum Jee Jaan Se

Khelen Hum Jee Jaan Se [will be referred KHJJS henceforth] has gone wrong in every department.
Starting with the title Khelen Hum Jee Jaan Se sounds like any cheesy 1980's masala flick like Jeeten Hum Shan Se or Jamane ko Deekhana Hain
It has been proven that Abhishek Bachan can only deliver in What an Idea Sirji commercials and Koffee with Karan's episode. You give him anything beyond that and he will perfectly screw it up.
Deepika Padukone's best feature is her legs, and when you cant see it on screen, you just can't see her on screen.
Sohail Sen is not even 0.01% of A R Rehman, we know IT and we don't even expect it. But the only saving factor for bad movie can be a good music. We do not have it here.
The striking feature of Gowariker's earlier offerings were it's dialogues, you just can not accept Pritilata Waddedar [the only woman revolutionary in Chattogram Uprising] saying 'par mein tumhare bina jee nahi sakti'
And last but not the least...Ashutosh Gowariker - the only reason I went to watch this movie.

This might be the year of good directors delivering their worst work. Maniratnam with Raavan, Anurag Basu with Kites and now Gowariker with KHJJS.

So what goes wrong and where exactly?
KHJJS is based on Novel DO AND DIE that is inspired by Chattogram uprising took place in 1930's, the not-so-known novel on lesser known revolt [sad but true!] So Gowariker was in safe territory as he has not to deal with book fanatics...that mainly happen with Harry Potter movies. The movie starts on Football ground where bunch of teenagers have been pushed out of their ground by Angreji Seepayee
Few of them decide to go to Surjya Sen [Abhishek Bachan] known for his revolutionary acts. Meanwhile Surjya with his bunch of comrades decides to resume revolutionary movement [that was halted by Gandhiji for an year and so] and when Surjya found that he can use these teenagers in his plan he setup a walk in interview for them [what an idea sirji!!!]
First part takes typical Lagaan tone, where it establishes characters and trying to overcome all the odds. And this is the most tiring part of the movie. Gowariker is famous for his casting and how skillfully he takes out best work from new actors. However KHJJS has bunch of BAD ACTORS and the league successfully led by Abhishek Bachan. As you can see him most of movie with folded arms and giving Bhashan on revolution.
This is definitely one of the most uninspiring leader produced on Indian Celluloid. I bet KKR's Deshdrohi has more flesh and blood to his character than Abhishek's portrayal of Surjya Sen.
So back to movie, in second half when actual action starts, the perfect plan goes haywire due to various reasons. And all the people involved have to rush in jungles of Bengal. The story ultimately end up with protagonist is hanged till death.
Looking at onset this looks really heartening story, the teenagers in their 20's lost their lives for country. But the movie never moves you.....Gowariker failed there miserably.
You just don't connect to movie, on the other hand it gets too boring. Surprisingly the direction looks so amateurish and you actually wonder if this is the same guy who gave us Swadesh and Lagaan?
I am just so disappointed with the movie, the only memorable moment for me is the end credits of the movie, where they have shown pictures of all the martyrs and those who served life imprisonment. The movie never do justice to their sacrifice.

re-post

"Aho kashala netay tyala shalet? kahi gadbad hou shakte ki" ("Why are you taking him to school? There might be some problem") my neighbour warned my mother as she was taking me to school at around 6:30 in the morning. However there were many speculations going around those days and my mother chose to give a deaf ear to friendly neighborhood's advice.

1992, I was in 4th standard and preparations for scholarship exam were in full swing, but somehow during lunch break we have been told that they are calling off for the day and afternoon batch will not have any classes. Then, I used to live in Kurla, ~70% Muslim populated and supposed to be communal sensitive area. My school was in Sion, and I used to come to school by train, 4th standard kid is too little to travel by his own, specially when the situation is not ideal.

But what was the situation out there? For 9 years old it was a bit more complex to comprehend. School authorities were not allowing kids to travel by their own and hence we have been asked to wait until parents will come to pick us up. The school was 80% empty by 11:00 AM and as time passed the eerie feeling was sulking in, even the empty school ground was not appealing any more, I was waiting there for almost 4 hours now and feeling of hunger was far away. It was 3:00 PM and there were only 4 of us, me, Praful, Trupti and  a peon (we used to call him mama). Trupti's mom came to take her home and as per what she told to mama, things were really bad out there. All I care was to go home. 30 minutes later I saw my both parents. I was happy to see mom there but equally surprised to see my father (isn't he supposed to be in office by now?) They thanked mama for staying with us and took me and Praful to nearest restaurantGurukripa. The owner was about to close for the day at 3:45, but when he saw 2 kinds he allowed us to get in and we had some food. Soon Praful's dad came in and took him.
"What's the matter, what took you so long?" the obvious question from me to parents.
"There are no trains and we came walking till here" mom replied,
"So how would we get back to home?" I asked again.
"We will get to the Sion station and see how the things are" as baba replied, we have started walking towards station.
There was a huge crowd waiting at Sion station, railway announced one special train to Kalyan, may this was our only chance to get in train and reach home as soon as we can. We were desperate, so as every other person on that station. Somehow we could catch that train and reached home. There were policemen all over the place making even the daily route look so unfamiliar. There was a mosque almost 50 meter away from my home, and you could see it from window, as soon as we entered the home, my mom closed the window and said this will remain close for few days at least. Perhaps the first sign of fear coming to home. As I was at home my parents were still worried about both of my sisters who were still in college. One in Vidyavihar- a nearby suburb to Kurla and another at Mahim - an equally sensitive area. It took us 5:00 to reach home, an hour later my elder sister returned home. and by 6:30 we got a call that my second sister has reached safely at my aunt's place in Vile-Parle.

I have been told that my school will be closed for some days now. "Wow!!!"  that was my first reaction. Ignorance is bliss...very true. Someone called us, saying get to the terrace there is one jewellery shop has been set on fire. Of course I have been asked to stay at home only. But no complains....no school for few days, I was really happy. I went to the sleep without worrying that I need to get up early for school tomorrow.

This post is not to open any debate or make any stand. It's neither to support or oppose what happened on and after 6th December.....it's just to tell what happened on 6th December from a 9 year old's point of view. But almost 18 years later I still do not know what we got out of it. Some might say it's Hindu's revenge, some might say a payback or some might call it an action better late than never. It's still hard to comprehend for me what all this worth for? Perhaps only raam jane (God Ram only knows)
